Now I love the Football league! Being a Palace fan, (yes someone has to be I suppose) I’m used to life in this league. Its a fantastic league and the forthcoming season will provide plenty of cheers and tears for club’s fans. There will be no shortage of stunning goals, crunching tackles and epic matches. The gulf between the Premiership and Championship is vast in terms of quality of football and wealth, however this I why I love the league so much.
The Premiership is fantastic but I believe there is to much money, comfort and egos in the league. The Championship isn’t much better, but you do still get a sense of real tough football and realize how much football means to fans of lower league clubs. There’s nothing glamorous about playing Doncaster Rover’s away but I love it!
So this is for those fans who want to bet on their Championship club. Next week I will be previewing league 1&2.
The Championship
The league is so open resulting in very good betting odds for all teams pre season so get those bets down early. Derby are rejoining the league this season after a awful season in the Premiership, along with Birmingham and Reading. All will be looking to jump straight back up, and with the parachute payments they will receive, all will have the funds to spend in the transfer market.
QPR (6/1 888sport) are the new Chelsea of the league having been heavily invested in by the Mittal family, Bernie Eccelstone and Flavio Briatore. They have the money to buy some big players and manager Iain Dowie will be determined to win the league and take the club to the Premiership for the first time in 11 years.
Birmingham City, also priced at 6/1 to win the league, should be competing at the top end of the league with manager Alex Mclesih at the helm. They have also signed Marcus Bent from Charlton and will be a difficult team to beat next season.
Reading will be one of the favourites to win the league and at 8/1 with bet 365 aren’t a bad shout. Any team with Steve Coppell in charge has a chance.
Crystal Palace (11/1 should be challenging at the top end of the league with a manager who knows how to get promoted. Winning the league will be difficult but Palace have the players to do it.
Least favourites to win the league are Blackpool (100/1) who were promoted from league 1 last season. Bristol City were a newly promoted side last year and weren’t far from 1st place, finishing third. This is a league where anything is possible so I would rule any teams out.
Leave a comment below letting us know who you think will be crowned champions of the Championship, and make sure to check back next week for a betting preview for leagues 1 and 2.
