Tottenham striker, Jermain Defoe has most certainly proved himself as a star after the 9-1 victory over Wigan on Sunday. Harry Redknapp has praised the player as the best finisher in the country.
The striker scored 5 goals during the game making the total goals scored for the premier league by him, 11. Defoe now has his eyes set on winning the golden boot for the champion’s league. Defoe explained his excitement stating, “It is a competition where you’re playing against the best, and I’d be playing against the best defenders in the world in a great competition.”
Last season, the 27 year old scored 64 goals within 177 games last season and is currently on track for beating this by scoring 16 goals in just 22 games so far.
Defoe has explained the importance of learning from the best and has said that in the past he has watched video clips on YouTube of the best strikers in the world to help improve his game. “I watched some of Clive’s goals on YouTube and it’s important to do that to learn. He got 49 goals in one season and that is unbelievable. If I did that I don’t know what I would do. I have spoken to great strikers like Les Ferdinand and Ian Wright. Wrighty tells me no matter how many you score, always try to get another right until the final whistle. I’ve got that mentality now to try and get more.”
