Premier league strugglers, Portsmouth FC, have finally been taken over by Sulaiman Al Fahim ending the speculation about the club’s future.

The 32 year old, Al Fahim, will now be the sole owner of the club in a buyout estimated to have cost £60million.

The club has seen a turbulent summer so far, particularly when it was forced to sell some of its best players to pay off debts estimated to be around £44m. Pompey sold English internationals, Crouch and Johnson to remain in business.

A spokesman for Al Fahim said, “Sulaiman Al Fahim welcomes this agreement and looks forward to helping the club build on its impressive history,”

Portsmouth’s press release said the following: “The chairman of the club would like to extend his gratitude to the players, staff and supporters of Portsmouth FC who have shown an extraordinary level of commitment and loyalty to this great club.”

Portsmouth’s manager, Paul Hart, will now be aiming to steer the team out of the relegation zone. However this could prove to be difficult as the south coastal club has lost their first three games of the season scoring just one goal.

Pompey’s next match will take place at Fratton Park against Manchester City on Sunday.

For the team to be relegated from the Barclays Premier League, Portsmouth is 4/5 with BetFred and 8/13 with Ladbrokes.

Wayne Rooney Top Scorer

Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney, is set to be the top goal scorer of the season after scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Birmingham City at Old Trafford.

In the game, Rooney scored his 99th goal for the club. After 34 minutes of play, the centre forward kicked the ball into net after his initial header from Nani’s cross, bounced back off the post and into his path.

Rooney was clearly the star performer and was frightening with the ball; he constantly made smart runs when his colleagues had control of the ball.

The midlands visitors played defensively from the beginning, giving the Red Devils plenty of space midfield. Rooney caused panic within 12 minutes of the game, as he hit a dipping 20 yard that was acrobatically knocked over the cross bar by Hart.

Rooney’s fantastic chested through ball flick set up Michael Owen, a new signing to Man U, with a one on one chance with Hart in the 83rd minute.

Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, told MUTV, “Wayne took his goal well, the header was a good one and then he reacted the right way – he was quick to follow up. That gets him on the road to what we hope will be a very significant total for us this season.”

“It’s good if you can get two or three of your players to score more than 20 goals. Wayne’s capable of that – we’re not asking him to do the impossible.”

Wayne Rooney is at 13/2 with canbet to be the Premier League’s top goal scorer this season.

Arsenal Transfer Issues and Premiership Betting Odds

AFC manager, Arsene Wenger, has spoken out about his recent transfer activity and has assured his fans that he will not be panic buying this summer.

Arsenal have sold Emmanual Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Man City over the past week for approximately £40 million and have so far only bought one new player, Thoman Vermaelen from Ajax, for £10million.

The Gunner’s manager has always preferred to be frugal with his cash rather than splashing millions on more experienced players; Wenger has always preferred to focus his efforts on young rising stars. However, many Arsenal fans are becoming frustrated that a major trophy has not been held by the club for four years and that the squad isn’t large or flexible enough to compete with its domestic rivals.

It has been argued that youngsters such as Ramsey, Walcott and Wilshere aren’t ready to play at such a high level week in week out.

In response to the claims, Arsene Wenger commented, “I feel we are strong enough but if we can add then we will do it… In England people think that all the problems can be sorted out by buying players. If we need to add then we will. We have money available so for us it is now [important] to spend it in the right way when we do it or if we do it.”

Arsenal is 8/1 with Bet 365 to win the 2009-10 Barclays Premier League.

Tonight Chelsea will fight to keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive. Uncharacteristically Chelsea find themselves needing a win from their last group game to secure a place in the last 16.

Over the season Chelsea have been dogged with injuries and situations that has left them fighting to the bitter end to reach the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup.

With Micheal Essien, Juliano Belletti, Ricardo Carvalho, and Franco Di Santo all injuryed and question-marks over Joe Cole and Didier Drogba Chelsea’s woe’s are made worse with the suspension of Frank Lampard.

Chelsea supporters will have alot of things crossed in hope that their team will end tonight victorious at Stamford Bridge. If however they lose or draw the game their Champions League hopes will rest with the Borduaex vs Roma game.

If bookie favorites are anything to go by, Chelsea fans can rest easy, as odds are over-whelmingly in Chelsea’s favour.

Both Stan-James and Bet365 have Chelsea at 1/7 to win with CFR Cluj at 14/1to win.
