Football Bet does well at Euro 2008!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Football Bet had a very good Euro 2008, picking the winners before the tournament! Despite people continually knocking them back because of poor performances in recent tournaments, they were worth backing with a clearly strong squad. There were profits in the final with a 1-0 winning goal margin and Spain win backed.

The only real losses came when some of the big names went crashing out to the likes of Russia and Turkey, Italy and France in particular saving the bookies some big payouts.

Looking forward the upcoming competitions, we have a few interesting pre-season friendlies, however these are not smart betting opportunities!

The Premier League is now just a month and a half away, and we will turn our attention to that. Manchester United will start the season as favourites at around 1.64 whilst Chelsea will be second favourites, currently at 2.2 on the exchanges.

The other two of the big four, Arsenal and Liverpool, are 5.2 and 7.8 respectively. Unless either of these teams make some major signings in the transfer window then surely they cannot expect to challenge the top two from last season.

We can always expect United to be in the hunt, but many will be tempted by Chelsea with their new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, who already has a few new names to play with including Portugese duo Deco and Bosingwa. The 9/4 available at Betfred is our top Football Bet ahead of the season, however this may change before the start of the season!

Coming soon – top scorer football bets, Champions League football bets and much more…

Football Bet is open for business!

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Welcome to Football Bet! Football Bet will bring you all you need to know on football betting, including recent news, good football bets and tips. The site hopes to develop into a useful resource where all types of punters from all over the world can come together and share their knowledge of the football betting world.

Why Bet on Football?

As football is such a huge sport worldwide, it goes without saying that betting on the game is big business. For many, a weekend is not complete without a trip down to the bookies to put on their accumulator to spice up matchday. In the past, going to the bookmakers was the only way to place a football bet, but this has all changed now. The growth of the internet has inevitably brought the growth of online betting, which for many is now the most common way that they place their bets.

With such a huge majority of bookmakers now operating online, more and more people are transferring to the internet versions. There are a huge number of benefits to betting online rather than in the bookies, with the following just a small selection:

  • More markets (e.g. football bets – over 30 markets available for each football match).
  • Better odds – more selections from the click of a mouse means better options.
  • Special offers – for example get £200 in free bets with Bet 365! (See right).

What can I bet on?

The number of markets for football betting has become huge, especially online where it is no extra hassle for the bookmakers to manage them. The more common football bets are win/draw/win, goalscorer, asian handicap and correct score bets, there are now up to almost 100 different ways you can choose to bet on a match. Some of the more obscure ones include odd or even corners, first team to win a throw-in, total goal bands and woodwork bets.

Who should I place my football bet with?

With such a wide choice of bookmakers to place your football bet with, choosing the right one can be a tricky task. If you are new to online betting, you can narrow down your choice by looking at the bookmakers with the best odds, and the best sign up offer. For example, Bet365 offer all new customers £200 in free bets whilst offering some of the market-leading odds on football bets. Similarly VC Bet give new punters £100 in free bets and offer numerous specials on football matches each day.
